Gratitude

In this newsletter I would like to focus on gratitude and how it can enrich our lives and mental health. When we offer our time and pay attention to how we can be of service to others the benefits that we reap are endless. It can even improve sleep and lower our stress and research is now demonstrating the impacts and benefits of cultivating gratitude in our life.

Please consider participating in our 30 Day Gratitude Challenge beginning November 1st and pick up your Gratitude Jar and your Gratitude Note Sheets in the Vault on Friday 10/30/20. What is gratitude and how can it energize you? I feel gratitude when I am thankful for life’s blessings, for what I have been offered and for what I receive every single day. Noticing the good things in your life, that friend who just called, the gift card you received or that you gave, the beauty of your surroundings, something positive that just happened to you, all of these things that we so often take for granted. If we intentionally acknowledge and appreciate life's gifts we can feel more contentment and joy within ourself. With gratitude we seem to have more vitality, hopefulness and thoughtfulness towards others. How do we start to practice more gratitude in our life? Sharing with a close friend what we are grateful for in our day, being able to express gratitude over a meal with others, keeping a gratitude journal, and pausing to appreciate all that we have instead of noticing and comparing how we could have more. Practicing gratitude fosters resilience and optimism, noticing the good things that are happening in our lives, feeling thankful and noting it can increase our well-being. We are surrounded with a lot of negativity in our daily life especially 2020, however, we have choices to respond to those situations differently and focus more of our attention on what nourishes us. I know I practice before bed, bringing to mind 3 things that happened today that I am grateful for and you know I always seem to fall asleep better on the nights that I intentionally remember to do this. Studies show that people who have a sustained daily practice of gratitude experience less anxiety, less stress and less loneliness. Gratitude helps us to savor what is good in our lives, and it has widespread ripple effects on others. As I reflect on this gratitude practice, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have believed in me and chosen to practice yoga and pilates with me, you are a blessing in my life and have helped me grow to be the person who I am today.  I will be offering limited courses and workshops in November and December and certainly hope to enhance the offerings in Spring 2021.  During this pandemic, learning and growing are important for all of us.

How to Add Pilates to Your Wellness Routine

The Yoga and Pilates Vault and Extreme Fitness have partnered up to celebrate wellness with women everywhere!

What is ’wellness’ anyway? Many people may focus on the physical aspects of health, such as diet and exercise, but overall wellness includes emotional, social, and even spiritual health.

If finding a “normal” wellness routine has been hard in the recent months, you’re definitely not alone. Beginning a new regimen and turning it into a daily or weekly habit is tough! No matter the circumstance that is keeping you from your routine — injury, illness, or simply life — it's never too late to start!

Adding Pilates to Your Routine

“Pilates is the complete coordination of mind, body and spirit” - Joseph Pilates

Pilates was founded to build core strength, balance the body and increase range of motion. It also promotes mindful movement throughout the practice, creating an active meditation and decreasing daily stress. Because of its holistic approach, practicing Pilates will not only give you a new fitness routine, it will also boost and maintain your overall wellness!

So, how do you add Pilates to your wellness routine? Painting a picture of your new routine can help you make actionable steps! In doing so, you’ll identify ways to begin your mindful journey to a healthy, fulfilling life.

1. Start with lower intensity (or low-impact) workouts, like a free 30-minute Intro class, and have a knowledgeable instructor guide you through the moves.

2. Fuel your body with clean, healthy food that tastes and feels good. It’s important to have a quick snack 30+ mins before your workout that will give you a boost without making you overly full - try a smoothie or avocado toast!

3. Make a plan (weekly or daily schedule!). Setting aside time for yourself and your workouts at the beginning of the week can be a great way to make a commitment to your health! Although life may seem busy, practicing Pilates will fuel your energy and allow you to complete other tasks more efficiently.

4/ Stay connected with a community to support you along the way! The Yoga & Wellness Vault students enjoy a tight-knit community in and out of the studio.
